Absenteeism costs companies 815€ per worker on average...
Following a survey made by SD Worx, short term absenteeism costs on average 81.578€ per year for a company with more than 100 workers (815€ per worker on average). [1]
We also learn that workers are sick on average 48 hours per year.
Reasons that lead to absenteeism might be held in the impact of the crisis on motivation and involvement of the Belgian worker.
Absenteeism numbers are a good indication of the
general condition of the company. It depends on the behaviour of the worker. The way the employee will feel motivated and concerned will determine his behaviour.
Develop an incentive to reduce absenteeism could be a solution, but we would not advise you to do so. Is paying people to do the job they’re paid for in the first place the correct answer to absenteeism? Motivation stays the best way to reduce absenteeism.
Remember also that employees may have good reasons to be absent (sickness, family reasons...)
We advise you to improve the work environment, working conditions, diversify tasks, periodical reviews, team building.
Why do you think Google is one of the top 100 companies to work for?
Because Google shows its employees that it cares about them and want them to be healthy and happy.
Research shows that employees put in a greater effort for their employer when they feel their employer care about them.
You could for example offer your employees every two weeks an on-site chair massage. This kind of attention is often very appreciated because it reduces stress and workplace tension.
