Cleaning services and hidden liabilities

A couple of steps should be taken to protect your firm when choosing a cleaning firm.

Verify their insurance. Coverage for damage when cleaning your company should be the absolute basic policy of a cleaning company.

Take a look at their personnel. You should know how many people will be cleaning in your building and the type of contracts between them and the cleaning firm. As cleaning companies have a high personnel turnover, ask the cleaning company’s personnel policy and ask them on which criteria the company recruits its personnel.

What gets cleaned? Obviously, floors, tables and desks will get cleaned. Some other parts of your building are not so obvious. How about the inside of the microwave in the kitchen? How about your glass doors and windows at the entrance of your building? How about the mirror in the elevator? Do think of these often forgotten parts of your building and make a schedule how many times a month these need to be cleaned. Make sure these cleaning requirements are met and check them regularly.

Finally, take a look at the price. Comparing cleaning firms only on price is a capital error which leads to low quality (as we already discussed in previous blogposts).
