Smart optical sensors
The Flemish government decided today to abandon the policy of lighting all highways at night. On half of the Flemish highways, the lights will be shut down permanently. Belgium will therefore lose its status as illuminated country, which is clearly visible from space.

This policy measure has an important impact on the environment and on the government budget. Savings would add up to 2 million euro each year.
Not only government, but also companies too often leave their lights on unnecessary. Easy solutions provide immediate returns, decreasing this waste. By installing an optical sensor, lights are automatically switched off when rooms are empty. Philips’ Occuswitch takes optical sensors to the next level. This type of sensor also decreases the amount of artificial light when there is enough natural light coming in through the windows. By using this system, you also save money with your lights on . Cost reduction could total to 30%.
