Impact of energy prices on Belgian SMEs

The secrétariat social UCM (Union des classes moyennes) has published a survey of 561 SMEs about energy.

Here are some points to learn from this study:

  • 3 out of 4 entrepreneurs say they are aware of an increase in prices in the future.
  • Price increases could threaten the survival of SMEs "soon" for 8.7% of respondents and "very quickly" for 14.4%.
  • 1 out of 3 CEOs has no concern related to the cost of energy.
  • More than 1 out of 3 CEOs is considering investments to reduce consumption.
  • 1 out of 4 CEOs plans to produce renewable energy.
  • 1 out of 3 CEOs did not choose their supplier of electricity and gas.
  • 54% of SMEs that responded to the survey were clients of Electrabel, 24% of Luminus, 14% of Lampiris and the rest of Nuon and Essent.
  • 46% of CEOs do not know their electricity consumption

This survey shows us how important it is to remain constantly aware of energy issues regarding your supplier and your consumption.
