IT infrastructure: complex savings but large potential
- First and essential: Make a complete inventory of your infrastructure.
- Find in details what you have, why you use it, since when, how many users, which providers, how much you pay, which conditions...
- Evaluate your current needs and estimate the future purchase previsions (These previsions are essential to be able to negotiate efficiently)
- Elaborate a clear negotiation plan and your strategy.
- Consolidate your infrastructure as much as possible (networks, servers, data centers, networks...).
- Avoid multiple coverage: for example you may have several maintenance agreements that cover the same products.
- Purchase directly to the manufacturers
- Group orders to make one large purchase
- Consider refurbished or second hand equipment (Apple, HP, Dell, Amazon and others offer large discounts, average 10-30%, on certified refurbished equipment).
- Define precise service level agreements with penalties for noncompliance
- Ask vendors for reductions in maintenance and support costs
- Once price is agreed, consider additional terms, training, assistance that could be included
