Low cost fuel: "La pompe du peuple/De pomp van het Volk"
In January 2009, a new player in the gas stations market has appeared in Flanders "De pomp van het Volk".
The concept is quite simple:
- guarantee the cheapest prices in the local area of the station (often 10 to 15c€ cheaper than in traditional stations).
- Share the benefits: registered customers who regularly tank in one of the stations and pay per card, could get up to 50€ at the end of the year.
Every day prices are adapted depending on the closest competitors around the stations to stay the cheapest.
How is it possible to offer the cheapest prices?
The cost structure is very simple:
- Everything is automated
- No shops
- No extra services
- 5 employees to manage 15 stations
How is the quality of the fuel?
The company buys large quantities of fuel to one of the international well known petrol companies. So the fuel is similar to any other major providers.
Today, "De pomp van het Volk" counts 14 stations in Flanders, 1 in Wallonia and 2 should open soon in Brussels.
