Tip of the week: a new generation of radiator foil

Many buildings still have radiators which are older than 10 years. The walls behind these radiators are heated unnecessary during their usage. Instead of investing in new radiators, other possibilities exist which are easy to apply and offer a high return on investment.

The Dutch firm Tonzon offers a new generation of radiation foil. Instead of applying this foil on your wall behind the radiator, you apply it against the back of your radiator. The heat is no longer aimed towards both front and back, but only towards the center of the room. Huge savings are immediately achieved. The picture below shows the effect when viewed with an infrared camera.

The left half of the radiator is not treated, the right half is. The temperature is indicated in degrees Celcius. One can clearly see the heated wall behind the left part of the radiator. On the right, the wall stays cool. The difference in wall temperature is high: from 37.9 °C to 19.2 °C (- 49%).

Using this type of ratiation foil, savings of CO2-emission and financial benefits are achieved with minimal effort.
