Waste disposal
Around 90% of all companies are paying too much for waste disposal and recycling costs. Three steps can be taken to heavily decrease these costs:
The first thing which needs to be done, before making any waste, is analyze you consuming pattern. Which are the products that you currently use? Often opportunities are overlooked in this first step. Why use small water bottles instead of larger ones? (Of course, the question which needs to be addressed first is whether you need water in bottles, instead of cheaper water dispensers)
After this first step, the second issue which should be addressed, is the way the personnel treats waste. Do they recycle? Did they receive training on how to recycle? How is the garbage disposal organized?
Choose the right type and size of waste container. Try to estimate the right service level agreement which is required, to make sure your waste container(s) is emptied not too few and not too often. When you’ve done this, the final step consists of choosing the right waste hauler.
Too often companies only take a part of this cycle into account. When applying all these steps, large improvements could be made, both financially and ecologically.
